Can Japanese Men Cook?

Can Japanese Men Cook

Yes, yes they can. I mean, of course! Men everywhere can cook. I’ll ashamedly admit that at one time I believed some of the generalizations that I heard about how rigid Japanese society is with social norms. You know, the men go to work and the women belong at home and in the kitchen.

The mask lasted for about 30 minutes until he started sweating. He gave it up about halfway through kneading the bread.

Luckily, my boyfriend is the youngest of three boys in his family. He spent a lot of time learning how to cook with his mother since he didn’t turn out to be the daughter that she wanted.

I don’t mean to brag, but he’s really good. That’s fortunate for me, because although I can whip up something to fill my stomach to survive, I can never quite create rich and flavorful dishes without some planning and the help of a recipe.

Since my boyfriend loves cooking so much, I suggested that we start a cooking website or channel on YouTube. He was a bit reluctant at first, but when I promised him that he could wear a mask he finally agreed.

Speaking of which, have you ever seen bread so golden? I’m sure you have, but let’s pretend you haven’t.

Anyway, please check out and enjoy the video to see how it turned out. Also, I appreciate everyone that has taken the time to subscribe. I’m up to 43 now! Cheers!

My name is LaShawn and I have been living in Japan for seven years. Check out my blog to learn about my experiences or get advice on how you could do the same!

  1. LaShawn! I enjoyed the video, especially your boyfriend’s mask, haha. Seriously though, it’s well edited and a fun way to spend 4 minutes. I’m looking forward to the next one!

Thank you, Jason! I had a lot of fun recording and editing it. I played it back for Mr. Criminal and he was like, “Nooooo!” But, I think he’s warming up to it 😉

  2. Wow! Bread is pretty difficult to make in my opinion, very impressive!

Congrats on making a YouTube channel 🙂
